Movie Review by Perry Pannu: The Bourne Ultimatum I’m probably the only guy on earth who hasn’t seen the first two Bourne movies, but it’s not my fault; Matt Damon just isn’t very high on my list of must-see actors. So I went to see the third installment of the series not really knowing what took place in the first two, but the movie still made sense; amnesia isn’t that difficult to wrap your head around. Kudos to Julia Stiles, who plays Nicky Parsons. She’s smart and beautiful and should have her own spin-off movie: The Parsons Identity; I’d go see it. I have to say, The Bourne Ultimatum is really well written and suspenseful…but the execution of the story left me with a headache. The shots were unsteady, they were constantly moving around, and sometimes, when the shots were cut together quickly, I couldn’t see what I was looking at. An example would be when Matt Damon rides a motor bike up some stairs and you see a frame of another guy riding a bike in the other direction, but the other guy isn’t on the stairs, but he sort of is because the scene was overlapping and shaky and kind of blurry. Sounds a little jarring? Now you have an idea. Ultimatum could go head to head with Blair Witch and win. Some over-the-shoulder shots had three quarters of the screen covered with dark shadows and one tiny quarter with half of the actor’s face. Some call that artistic…for others it’s just plain annoying. If you are a fan of the Bourne series, I know you are going to go see it in the theatres, but I suggest you sit in the back row. The closer to the screen you are, the bigger your headache will be. For everyone else, I suggest waiting for this movie to come out on DVD. Rent it so you can see it on a small screen at home and pause it to actually see what you are looking at. I was actually thinking of sending money to the camera operator, so he can buy a tripod. You know, for The Bourne Continuum. If you want to have a bit of fun, make your own trailer for The Bourne Ultimatum by clicking here.
