Movie Review by Perry Pannu:

Lars and The Real Girl

Lars and The Real Girl
In Theatres Today

A fresh and cleverly eccentric film, Lars and The Real Girl stars good Canadian kid Ryan Gosling, who proves time and again the impressive versatility of his talent. His latest character may not share any similarities with that which garnered him an Oscar nomination for Half Nelson last year, but I think it’s just as deserving of the coveted golden boy.

And Gosling doesn’t have to carry the movie alone. Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider, Kelli Garner and Patricia Clarkson execute killer performances as they make their fictional little town come to life to help out one of their own. It’ll make you wish such a world truly existed.

This is one of the oddest movies I’ve seen this year, not surprising considering it came from the mind of Nancy Oliver, who also penned gems like Six Feet Under. Unsure of whether I should be laughing or feeling sorry for the offbeat characters, I soon found myself doing both…at the same time! I have to tell you, it may be the same old story of boy meets girls, but you’ve never seen it done quite like this. It’s creative, quirky, refreshing and I’ve got my money on ‘copycat’ films already in the works.

I’ve already made plans to go see it again next week, and I’m taking three people who have yet to experience it. I recommend that everyone and their mother go see this one. It’s quite wholesome, despite the fact that it co-stars a sex doll. It’s one of my top 10 movies of 2007 so go see it in the theatres, then buy it on DVD when it gets released so you can invite your friends over to watch it over and over again.
